Visiting Longwood Gardens With Kids

Our daughter’s third birthday is tomorrow so we planned a special trip to celebrate this milestone! Traveling with two small kids isn’t always easy, so we’ve been trying to take advantage of day trips instead of week long trips. For Izzy’s birthday we decided to take a day trip to Longwood Gardens. This is a great summer place for families to visit. In this post I’m excited to share with you our experience visiting Longwood Gardens with kids

If you’ve been a regular follower of Heart of Deborah you know my family loves taking pictures. I’m not sure what it is exactly, but I love capturing the moment and finding unique ways to photograph our family.

As part of our trip to Longwood Gardens, we were so excited to partner with Janie and Jack and share with you how we turned this summer activity into a treasured moment.

Planning a family fun activity this summer? Consider visiting Longwood Gardens with kids. Great outdoor activities and things for people of all ages to enjoy!

Visiting Longwood Gardens With Kids

Take Photos:

Longwood gardens provides the perfect backdrop for photographs. I love finding natural settings to take pictures of our children. With the beautiful flowers and fountains you can’t go wrong. Taking pictures of children is tough! Trying to get them both to smile and look at the camera at the same time is almost impossible.

If you have successfully done this with your kids please let me know how! Because of this I’ve found a new love for candid photographs. I should also take a moment to thank my dad for his help in the photography area. Thanks dad 🙂

Best Kid Activities at Longwood:

Our kids love being outside so places where they can roam free are perfect for our family. Izzy and IJ both loved watching the fountains at the Italian Water Garden. There were mesmerized by the running water and to be honest the sound of it was very calming to me as well. The big tree houses are another must see. We liked the Canopy Cathedral best.

The indoor children’s garden is part of the conservatory and it was breathtaking. There were so many beautiful flowers and plants. There were also a ton of water fountains that the children could touch and play in. Lastly, at the open air theatre you can see a 5 minute showpiece of music and water on the hour. It’s fun for everyone!

Bring Extra Clothes:

There is plenty to touch and see in the children’s garden areas. If you have an active child make sure you bring an extra pair of clothes and even a towel to dry off with. We went on a very hot day so honestly the water felt refreshing! But if you have a long ride home you don’t want to your kids soaking wet in the car.

Create Moments to Treasure:

I’ve noticed I am always in a rush these days! It was so nice to have time outdoors with our family where we could just relax and take it slow. We spent a lot of time at the Italian Water Garden and it perfect. Especially with young children I often feel flustered and like I’m not really living in the moment. We tried to make this day extra special because it was part of our daughter’s birthday celebration and I think we succeeded.

How do you create summer moments to treasure? I’d love to hear about your favorite ways to celebrate summer with family in the comments below. I also want to take a moment to thank Janie and Jack for sponsoring this conversation.

When we first got married we lived near a Janie and Jack outlet. I’d never heard of the store before (we didn’t have kids at the time), but I would walk by and secretly ooh and aah over the clothing in the window. I loved the classic and timeless clothing.

  1. I love all the sets of coordinating hats and outfits! This is something I really get a kick out of when I’m dressing my kids.
The little girls sailor romper is adorable too. (Though sadly not in a large enough size for my tall girl).

  2. I love taking pictures of my 18M twins boys as well. It’s hard to have them looking at the camera at the same time.
So taking photos of them being playful, laughing, and taking care of each other are the best pictures.

I love jetsetter prep and Hampton hideway collection for my twin boys.

  3. I love the jet-setter style. Just adorable! They are all gorgeous, but I have to say that is my favorite <3

  4. I love Janie and jack! Their outfits are so cute! I especially love how they’re modest. It’s easy to find outfits for the kids to wear to church and everyday. I love the Rooftop Border dress and am eyeing the Cozy lamb collection for our baby due this fall.

  5. I really love the Sailboat Swim Trunk with the Anchor Rash Guard, would look adorable on my grandson, thanks!

  6. I literally love all of their clothing and would definitely dress my daughter in only their clothing if I could afford it. If I had to pick a favorite I think I would choose the Plaid Twill dress or the Poppy Border dress. I’ve had my eye on both of those and will probably end up buying one if not both before long!

  7. I LOVE Janie and Jack clothing! It is so well made and classy! I am especially in love with the “Uptown Outing” collection and the swimsuits!
