Peanut Butter Smoothie Recipe

Since I can remember I have always loved Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. There is just something about peanut butter and chocolate together! Who’s with me? I also love eating a banana with a tablespoon of peanut butter as a snack. When we bought our Vitamix blender a few years ago we loved creating new smoothie recipes. I have to admit I typically don’t measure when I bake or cook. This bothers my husband, but I enjoy it for some reason. He has been begging me to write down this recipe and I finally did. I hope you enjoy this peanut butter smoothie as much as we do.

Healthy Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie Recipe

I love Reese's Peanut Butter cups, but they aren't healthy. This peanut butter smoothie recipe is not only delicious, but a nutritious alternative.

Ingredients:

1 Frozen banana
1 heaping tablespoon peanut butter
1/2 cup almond milk
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 teaspoon Flax Seeds
4-6 ice cubes

Directions:

  1. Gather all of your ingredients and place in blender.
  2. Blend on high for 1 minute.
  3. If you desire a thicker shake add more ice cubes. If your smoothie is too thick, add some more almond milk and blend to mix.
    Enjoy!

As a family we try to eat as many whole foods as possible and we try to limit our sugar intake. This is one of the reasons I typically use plain yogurt. There is so much added sugar even if you buy organic vanilla yogurt. I personally think the smoothie is sweet enough with just the banana, but if you desire a sweeter taste you can add a teaspoon of honey or pure maple syrup. I also love sneaking in some flax seeds to add some omega-3 essential fatty acids and fiber.

  1. This sounds delicious, Lauren! I’ll try it using almond butter since I can’t have peanuts!

  2. Too funny–my favorite smoothie is almost exactly the same! Plain yogurt, milk, banana, honey, and sometimes a dash of cinnamon. Ice cubes, maybe. (So basically, I usually just make mine without the cocoa powder.)
