I LOVE this saying! It is so true yet so difficult to do. For some reason it is human nature to run and hide instead of facing our problems or situations. I’m not sure why this happens, but it’s sometimes easier to live in denial and just hope the problem will go away then face it. However, this strategy seldom if ever works out well. One example in the Bible is Jonah. Jonah was called to go to Nineveh, but instead he fled to Tarshish. On the way, Jonah was thrown into the sea and swallowed by a great fish. It wasn’t until he called on the name of he Lord that he was saved. Maybe it’s a pride thing? I’m not sure….
I find that we often want to figure things out on our terms, on our time. But wouldn’t it be easier if we just humbled ourselves and asked for God’s help? I’m not writing this to condemn anyone, I struggle with this myself. But I want to remember that God gives me new mercies EVERY morning! And He is able to do immeasurably more than I could ever ask or imagine. If I TRULY knew this and understood this, then why wouldn’t I go to him with all my problems, situations, experiences?
Here are some good verses to meditate on about this topic:
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
He is the Great Physician, Our strong tower, Our help in the time of need, the BRIGHT morning star.
