Growth Spurts
The last 24 hours Izzy has been crankier than usual and wanting to eat all the time!! I asked my husband if he thought she had a fever because I was thinking “this is not normal, something must be wrong.” He suggested she was going through a growth spurt and sure enough after I looked up information (PTL for google) I think that is what is happening.
Growth spurts typically happen between 4-8 weeks and Izzy is 5 1/2 weeks. During growth spurts babies are often fussy, inconsolable, and wanting to eat every 1-2 hours! I also read that these growth spurts can happen right before a big milestone (such as crawling, walking, talking, etc.).
That got me thinking…..baby growth spurts are similar to spiritual growth spurts. They can be uncomfortable and they happen right before a big breakthrough. God may put us in ‘uncomfortable’ situations or seasons to stretch up and help us grow! Instead of physically growing, we grow to become more like Jesus. And the best part is there may be a big milestone or breakthrough ahead. So they next time you feel a little cranky and think God may be wanting to teach you something, EAT!
What does that mean exactly? 1 Peter 2:2-3 says “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” Eat by reading your Bible and finding pure spiritual milk that will satisfy your thirst!!
I found your post very insightful on spiritual growth. I can honestly say that the discomfort of growth spurts will pass and the results will be beautiful. Remember your little one may be growing physically, but God is growing you spiritually as a mother. The fierce love a mother has for her child doesn’t come overnight; it’s forged in the fire of sacrifice, sleepless nights, and even frequent feedings. Therefore, Proverbs 31:28 says “Her children arise and call her blessed…”
