God’s Word and Your Thought Life

God’s word reveals to us that what we think about is what we become.  Our internal dialogue is either positive or negative.  You can’t always control what happens to you, but you can control how you think about it.  If I wake up and think to myself, ‘Today is going to be horrible.  I am so tired.  I am sick of this cold weather,’ I am bound to have an unpleasant day.  On the other hand, if I wake up and remind myself of God’s promises I have a heavenly perspective for the day.

God's Word and Your Thought Life - Proverbs 23:7

Our thoughts can affect our inmost being and the enemy knows this truth. He can be quick to attack our thoughts, but the good news is we can change our feelings and actions by changing our thoughts.  The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”

We must be on guard and hold every thought captive.

We can do this by checking our thoughts with God’s word.

When we start to bring every thought into captivity and check our thinking with what the Bible says we can identify wrong thinking.  Then we can shift our focus and meditate on things that are true, lovely, noble, praiseworthy (Phil. 4:8).

Are you aware of your thoughts?  Take time to analyze your thought patterns.  Are you worrying or remembering God’s love and grace?  One way to remind yourself of God’s promises is to write them down on index cards and post them in places where you will see them on a daily basis.
