Feeding a Toddler on Vacation

We recently went to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware with our family and we had a wonderful time. It was Izzy’s first time at the beach and she loved it. Thankfully she didn’t try to eat the sand and she had lots of relatives to entertain her. We try to feed her mostly healthy toddler food, but I knew I didn’t want to be cooking her separate meals everyday.  So I did some planning and brought a lot of food with me.

Here are my favorite items when feeding a toddler on vacation:

We love these Kitchen of India meals. They are vegetarian, all-natural, and don’t have any preservatives. The best part is all you need to do is heat it up! Izzy loves the chick pea curry with brown rice. We stayed in a beach house with a large kitchen so it was easy to microwave or heat something up on the stove top. A healthy and delicious meal ready in 5 minutes.

Izzy also loves eating beans and rice. We recently tried Pacific Natural Foods soups and she enjoyed them. The best part is you can take out a portion, heat it up, and keep the leftovers in the box in the fridge for 7-10 days. We also buy the refried beans and hummus in the same BPA free boxes.

I don’t know what we would do without Ella’s Nibbly Fingers. It’s like a granola bar, but without all the nasty preservatives. They are a perfect quick on-the-go snack that you won’t feel guilty about. So far Izzy has loved every flavor we have tried. Another on-the-go snack that is somewhat healthy, Sprout Crispy Fruit and Veggie Chews. Perfect to take with you on the beach!

Another tip: Bring kitchen scissors! I LOVE using these to cut up Izzy’s meals. It saves so much time and I don’t get all messy trying to rip her food into small pieces.

We also took along with us pre-made meatballs, Ezekial muffins, and almond butter. In addition to the easy meals listed above we served Izzy fresh fruit and vegetables. I tried not to stress about her eating that week. Have you heard of the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time try to eat well (whole foods, fruits & vegetables, etc.) and 20% of the time let go a little!

What about you? Do you try to prepare healthy meals for your toddler when you go on vacation? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
